Bike It Crew

At St Augustine’s we are proud to be part of the Bike It Crew initiative, working with Gemma and Eric from Sustrans and a representative from each class makes up the Bike It Crew that helps promote Cycling and Scooting to school.

The Bike It Crew have many responsibilities, including handing out the ‘Golden Lock’ award randomly to any cyclist or scooter, carrying out regular bike and scooter counts, chairing and attending class meetings and promoting cycling and scooting throughout the year via competitions. One of the most popular events has been ‘Bling It’, a chance for children to decorate their own bike or scooter!

Gemma and Eric from Sustrans visit school for Collective Worships and run different sessions with the children. We have had Dr. Bike sessions, where children and staff bring their bikes to be checked over – some problems may even be fixed!

Big Pedal

At St Augustine’s we take part in the National Big Pedal, a competition involving over 1500 schools across the country, all encouraging each other to cycle or scoot to school.

We have been quite successful too, winning different prizes and experiences in the Peterborough competition, including a show from BMX stunt rider Keelan Phillips and a talk from Anna Hughes, a touring cyclist who had pedaled all the way around the British mainland!
